I am feeling the opposite, at least with this year's words. They bring up very specific meanings and images, which feels very confining. It's probably just my brain doing its thing. Besides, my knitting group was grousing about Kitchener stitch and things just pulled me that way.
Oh, I just like short words because I can do more things with them visually on the page with the calligraphy...I'm not imaginative enough to come up with actual sketches about the words!
That makes perfect sense. I love your calligraphy journey. Fifty years ago, when I was a graphic arts major, I used to do calligraphy, and also loved learning older cursive styles. (I did a program for Marat/Sade in early 19th century script.) Too shaky now; do it while you can. (Like everything.)
Oh wow! Funny thing is that I'm quite bad at graphic design. Whenever I need to do a page layout, it ends up being the dullest grid ever. But I'm having fun with the messiness of dropping ink on paper! It also helps that I'm appropriating my kids' scribbles to add randomness and pizzazz to the page.
Hahah you weren't feeling the Dora the Explorer vibe? As for me, I appreciate short words. More room to play!
