Our last rehearsal! They say that the worse the last one goes, the better the show. I hope it's true, because the rehearsal couldn't have been worse. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes! I tripped and I cut my ankle and I missed my cue. I was in the music room and it took 3 minutes to find me. Boy, did I feel stupid!! Who told me, though?
Talent Show tomorrow!

The women’s retreat was excellent. I then skipped a day — more of any indulgence than a lapse. Today I will get ready for San Antonio, which will be a treat once I get there. (A 7:55 a.m. flight is no treat!!
This is a more hectic spring break than I would like, but it may still hold some savory times.

Another millennium, another trip. We leave this afternoon for a long weekend in Chicago for a UU history conference. (Taking the train, as is my preference; downtown to downtown, overnight.)
In 1997 I was headed to the Popular Culture Association conference to present “Growing up Unisex: Children's' Fashion in the 70’s”, taking my 10-year-old along with me. I figured 10 was old enough to be on one’s own for a few hours at a time while I did the conference thing. More to come.
Both the PCA conference and the church women’s retreat were spring events I loved, and both fell off my schedule in the last few years. The retreat died from COVID (though we did manage a surprisingly good Zoom retreat in 2020). The Pop Culture conference, my favorite professional hangout, became less importance once I retired. My last one was in 2019, when I presented a draft of the first chapter of the now-moribund book 3. Oddly enough, I am still working on that same chapter. Writing is hard, sometimes.
