#1 - Stop in the Name of Love - Supremes
I went to rehearsal and guess who was there? V! He was there for a Chanticleer meeting. Of course I had my grubby old 10 cent army jacket on and a pair of cruddy old jeans.
We had a Biology test today and I'm lucky if I passed! It was on heredity.
I stopped by to see Mrs. H about Art Club. Hooboy! What a longwinded gal.

I had started building a leisure wardrobe of yard-sale finds, and my 10 cent Army fatigue jacket was a fave. The picture was taken in the fall of '65. Love the high water pants (the fun of being 5'9" in a 5'6" world) and the penny loafers.
As a college prep student, I could not take any electives until senior year, and I was very interested in taking art, or at least joining the art club. Mrs. H had been my art teacher in middle school, and was terrifyingly sophisticated, with her very short white hair, sweeping skirts and black turtleneck sweaters. I finally did take art my senior year, instead of Trig/PreCalc, and enjoyed the class immensely. (Did not enjoy the C'd and D's I got in physics because I didn't understand the math portion of the class.)

And here I sit, in my jeans, long-sleeved t-shirt and thrift store sweater. C’est moi.

Spring Break is here (hooray) and I am slowing down and doing the writing and planning I need to do. The content analysis article is moving along well, after 3 brought drafts (all different) in a month. Maybe I’ll be able to leave it for the typist tomorrow. If not tomorrow, maybe early next week.
Tomorrow night we go to NYC for a visit with C and J. I am dreading it a bit. C has been really fascinated with my pregnancy. She’s so judgmental about it. If I seem less than excited about it, she’s apt to say I am not properly maternal. Well, everyone is different. I’m maternal one-on-one (right kid?…nudge, nudge). But I also have other interests other concerns. I may be pregnant Jo, but I’m still more Jo than pregnant.
Today I have my annual review with Dr. Smith. I’ve been meaning to talk to her about lots of things, and this is the time to do it. There’s the change in my teaching schedule, for instance, from 4 days a week to 2 days a week. That has two advantages: full days for research and less sitter time if I do it at home. Then there’s the historic costume collection. How can I get more help?
My research direction seems set for now: late 19th and 20th century men’s and boys’ clothing. The whole question of sex roles and masculinity is fascinating. Also costume research is easier to do without funding or with little funding. Since the $$$ picture is really dim in the humanities, so right now that’s the wiser choice.
I am rounding out my graduate courses by next fall. History of Costume I needs work (new readings, better slides). It may eventually be a good large lecture course. Not right away, but perhaps in 8-10 years.
Now I need to set this all down on a separate piece of paper so I can remember it all for my annual review. Time to get dressed and get going!

My routine was sacrificed — or laid aside - yesterday. But it was a good day anyway. I had some excellent creative time in the office, then had a fine time playing with the band at a retirement home.
If Jim dies before me, I can’t imagine ever remarrying. I would rather have male friends than a lover/partner. How could I replace Jim? Maybe everyone woman feels this way.

While everyone else was stocking up, we are working on using up our perishable foodstuffs in advance of our move this week. It’s a very carefully calibrated process, involving homemade chili, lots of pasta, and eggs. Two of the eggs went into brownies this afternoon, because we ran out of chocolate over the weekend and chocolate must be had. (Don’t worry about us after the move; there is food waiting for us.)
