I hardly even saw V today.
It was student teacher day. T taught in Biology. B was in Geometry and T in History (he was lousy!). In Spanish we had D (OK) and B (OK). S taught in English . He isn't so bad. Rehearsal tonight, tomorrow and Thursday.

What an odd tradition! In our school, we had one day when students took over all the classes. It was, in a way, the same old popularity contest: the class, not the teacher, chose the sub. I checked in my yearbook, and only one of the student teachers was a member of the Future Teachers of America: the girl who subbed in Geometry. She’s my friend on Facebook, so I know that she majored in math in college, and went on to a career with an insurance company.
I avoided volunteering for student teacher day like the plague, because teaching was the LAST career I wanted. LOL

I am suddenly superwoman again. This frightening springly metamorphosis is hard to get used to. Bio rhythms? I have four chapters of my thesis done, out of six and an introduction. My class is going fine and I am thinking about teaching again. University of Maryland has an opening I'm applying for, and Dr. Carpenter has said that if I don't get anything I can stay at URI. (Whoopiedoo) A student asked me several weeks ago where I got my energy, and I promptly lost it. Actually I've been busy, but I'm looking forward to having time to do things I enjoy! I haven't read for fun in a long time or sewn or played my guitar. Aargh aargh. Perhaps I should cultivate a more positive attitude towards my work, or should I say, chores. Many of the things I do are enjoyable, I wonder why *I* don't enjoy them?

Not a bad day for the Ides of March. It was 60° yesterday, is sunny and warm today, too. Hard to believe that last week we had 4 inches of snow. Tomorrow night I leave for New York to visit Connie and recreate myself. I am struggling to feel and act my age and mature in this potentially regressive role. Anticipating problems adjusting to being a graduate student is one thing. Really adjusting is quite another. Yes, this is a step forward. Yes, it is what I want to do. But still, being back in school when you are 29 is a drag at times.

Well, it wasn't so terrific yesterday. We had a nice lunch, and I otherwise enjoyed myself, but the weather turned gray and drizzly. Kiddo has been rather cranky today. Whether it's teeth or what, I don't know. But she won't let me write or do anything.
Later – – I dropped kiddo at the sitters then went to Baltimore and got uniforms from the Howard University company for the costume collection. Then I came home and dealt with my summer clothes. I don't really need too much most of shoes. Now off to campus and then to pick kiddo up.

Closing day! I feel less terrified today than before. Mostly I am excited and impatient. Jim is overwhelmed. A plumbing problem came up this week and it's been solved, but he's still upset. Doesn't like plumbing. Feels the way I do about electricity. Maybe I should learn about plumbing. Oh, there's so much to do! I said something to that effect to Jim last night and he said, “I can't believe you are actually happy about it”. Well, yes I am, and I know why. It will be ours, everything we work on. Working on it will make it ours.

I changed my mind about the topic for the women's history month talk and did something completely different instead. Kiddo 1’s interest in wearing an old fedora turned into a talk about how girls learn to be feminine. It went very well; I was pleased to see LW there. When I first met her, I didn't know what to make of her. Eventually, I'm learning that she's a very fair-minded, very knowledgeable person when it comes to academic affairs.

And I just sneezed my coffee all over my laptop. How’s that for a slice of life?
Plumbing. Bah. Humbug! Our sump pump started misbehaving a few days ago. Ten - maybe even five years ago I would have crawled under the basement stairs, pulled the pump out of the pit and struggled with it in a pool of icy water until I got it working again. Not this time. No sirree! Called a plumber and paid him to do the job. Nice young guy, too, named Noah of all things. I think he may be an old soul...
