It started long ago in the Garden of Eden When Adam said to Eve, "Baby, you're for me." Also, about last night.

Laredo all day. It’s a nice town - very strange. Everyone, or so it seems, is bilingual. They have to be. We went shopping for hostess gifts. I bought cute little plastic rings for $1 each. One is yellow and one is blue, with painted flowers. We went to Mexico for dinner this evening. I had filet with wine sauce. $2.25.
I can’t unlock my hotel door - luckily the D’s are in an adjoining room. I go tru there. I was watching a local TV show about a woman who spent 10 weeks on a tramp steamer. When we went to breakfast, I happened to lookup and - there she was!
Excusame. Tengo que acostarme ahora. No se que hora es, pero debe de ser muy tarde. Hasta Mañana por la noche!
Remember: Mexican newscast with the “Game of Love” as a theme song.
“The purpose of a man is to love a woman
And the purpose of a woman is to love her man
So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play
The game of (love) love (love) love
La la la la la love
It started long ago in the Garden of Eden
When Adam said to Eve, "Baby, you're for me."
So come on baby let's start today, come on baby let's play
The game of (love) love (love) love
La la la la la love
Come on baby 'cause the time is right
Love your daddy with all your might
Put your arms around me, hold me tight
Play the game of love”

A good productive day. I made all my calls in the morning, went to P.G. Plaza and got sneakers, and talked to health officials and reporters this afternoon. This personal contact is great. I don’t feel at all isolated here as I once did. I hope we survive; the group, that is.
My expenses today:
Bus 80 cents
Cards and envelopes $1.26
fabric: $7.65
socks: $3.40
Sneakers: $13.80
Total: $26.31
Life, I might add, is very good. Too bad Jim is feeling so punk. (Dave is on vacation and he must play bless, which he doesn’t like.)

More effort on the tenants’ organization. In the long run, it resulted in some repairs, but the bigger plans went nowhere, and we eventually moved out. But it did bring the neighbors together, a mix of upwardly mobile minorities and older White people who typically did not interact with each other.

Well, vacation’s almost over. Taking June off to get stronger and more rested and to spend more time with kiddo was an excellent idea, but now it's time to get back to work. Most important, I need to formulate a new method of scheduling. Up to this time, my plans revolve around housework, recreation and work. Now childcare gets added to that. That means adjustments to the house work and recreation categories in addition to a new category for kiddo. I'd love to make her my top priority, but realistically she must share that spot with work, and sometimes even take a backseat to it
Right now it looks like mornings are going to be work times, with a gradual slow down towards the end of the day. A rest or nap must be built in late in the afternoon, and I must get exercise every day. My day will be less leisurely… Less schmoozing at work something I did too much of on the job.
Means I should get up at 5:45 with Jim, regardless of when kiddo has eaten. If she's awake for the 6 AM terrific. If she was up at up at four, I still get up – – I can nap later, and the early morning is my best work time.
Oh well – – time for a nursing break
Three pages of scheduling follow.

My last day out. It is gray outside, with high clouds and a little drizzle. We are about 2 to 3 hours late, moving along a river. It looks like the area around Harpers Ferry, but we are still in Pennsylvania. There were buses at Pittsburgh again, but this time for people with connections to make in DC, so I got to stay on. My mind is playing over a myriad of thoughts: the kiddos and their significant others, my sermon, my workshop at UUMAC. I love the sound of the train whistle, the wheels and the brakes.
This was an excellent trip, mostly. Next time I will avoid tight connections, so I won't have any bus rides and can enjoy my layovers.

Friday was lovely.
I caned, I snoozed, I conquered.

No chair caning this year, but I may be able to volunteer to work in the archives in the future. I never imagined that I would become a local historian in my dotage.

About last night.
I missed the first half hour of the debate because I was enjoying the weekly “Pel Show”. That’s the entertainment put on by the seasonal staff (Pelicans, aka Pels). There are always some amazing performers; my favorite is Jamie, a drummer who outBakered Ginger Baker using two stout but slightly crooked sticks for a mind-blowing drum solo.
Then I shifted to the adjacent lecture hall for the rest of the Biden-Trump debate. I am not going to argue that Joe looked good. He looked and sounded under the weather and tired. It reminded me of the time I ran an all-day workshop while taking meds for a really bad toothache. I was aware all the time that I was slurring my speech and hoped to God that I was making sense. I am sure Biden’s brain was producing a continuous loop of “oh shit oh shit oh shit hang on oh shit”. At the other lectern, TFG was spewing verbal shit that everyone could hear. And what are we talking about today? Dems are wringing their hands and murmuring about changing candidates, while the GOP are crowing about what a great performance their lying, evasive, name-calling convicted sex offender and felon delivered.
Thank heaven for this view and blueberry muffins.
Lovely photo. I think a lot of us are gonna have to get comfortable with enjoying the world as-is apart from electoral (and judicial) outcomes for the next few years
Yes, Biden sounded tired. He’s got a whirlwind schedule and just traveled back up the US. Who wouldn’t be? I understand he has a head cold; that explains it. He and his administration are doing everything they can on multiple fronts to save the world for us (literally save the world!)
But why anyone (other than the Repubs) would think the Democratic Party should change candidates is beyond me. Biden is quite sharp and very experienced. We already know this from his state of the union address and other public events. . And should he have a future off day, he’s got a wonderful VP, cabinet, and staff that keep everything moving along. This is the frickin’ “dream team!” Trump is a nightmare. There is NO better choice than keeping Biden in office, and making sure tfg gets his days in court to be held accountable.
I hope if people take ONE thing from that debate, it is that Trump REFUSED TO GIVE A ONE WORD “YES” or “NO” THAT HE WOULD ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF THE NEXT ELECTION AND CONDEMN POLITICAL VIOLENCE!! He hedged on both!! So the answer is no, he would not accept results if he loses and he supports violence on his behalf. It is clear as day, and it should disqualify him from holding any office anywhere and anytime.
