Went to club. Miguel Angel is very friendly - wants to see me in a bathing suit. Hmmmmm. R and J are not home yet. I hope they hurry. HARK - WHO IS THERE? No one, I guess. Rats! I have been a good girl today. Lovely.
Stayed up til 2 with Raul - watched CIPOL, Joseph Cotton movie. Had snack, Raul drew picture of me, wrote things in Greek, Latin, and German.

I did write to the Costume Society, and letter to the editor of the Washington Post, too. I’ve been watching the “Civilization”: series in the video room at the Undergraduate Library and it keeps me “up”. The last episode was on the Reformation and the 16th century. Invigorating. I wish I was a genius; it is so frustrating to be able to see what a real imagination can do, and feel no hint of whatever it is that makes someone a true genius. But I don’t suppose it’s necessary to be a super genius to do something useful, something special.

Dinner at 6 at the Henie-Onsted Museum. A lovely museum in a beautiful setting, right on the fjord. They have an excellent exhibit on Norwegian emigrants to the U.S. It made me feel mellow and warm. I am curious about my ancestors who took the risk and came to America. I wish I had known Grandfather Stennfeld better.
There is so much SKY here!
Later, almost 9 pm.
My feet ache. I have done so much walking and standing today. Tomorrow will be another big walking day. I wonder if I can bring food through customs? It would be fun to provide a Norsk frokast to the family when I get home. Perhaps just bread and cheese?

Decades later, thanks to Ancestry, I found out that some of my supposedly British forebears came from Sweden and Finland.

Back from Atlanta after a very nice meeting of the Costume Society. Kiddo 1 went along this time, and was amazingly good. She actually sat through over half of the presentations without getting too goofy. Mine went well, with some very good questions and comments afterwards. Beyond that, Kiddo and I drove around looking for the Fernbank Science Center (unsuccessfully), swam in the motel pools (2 pools!) and got to spend lots of time together. She really seemed to like flying, too, and having her along made it more interesting for me. There were so many things to see, so many questions to ask.
Well, now we’re home, it’s almost August, and it’s time to get to work.

Last day of Orientation, transfers this time. Then it’s a whole month off before the kids’ school starts. I have not done most of what I set out for myself in May - as usual - and am down to figuring out how much is really going to be accomplished.

Ice cream party. We need to have an ice cream party.
And I need to sew Kiddo 2’s shirt, and get ready for auction. I need to do banking today.
But mostly, I need to savor the day, hot and humid as it is. It only comes once in all of time, and I am here to enjoy it. Ice cream.

That’s a brilliant idea. I may even say, genius!
Later edit:
My plan for today: finish adding Sandy’s name to the memorial quilt. Ice cream for dinner.
