Tonight I went to T’s house to babysit. My Gosh! They had “Fanny Hill” and “Mary Poppins” on the same shelf!! I watched “War and Peace”. It was long and sad, but good. I like the Os better they pay me 50 cents to $1.50 extra. The Bs are generous up to 50 cents but the Ts pay exactly 50 cents per hour. I still got $2.50. Dad got me that package, not Bob. Bob got me what is obviously a record. Beatles - I hope.

It is amazing how many nice suburban homes had racy literature. Of course, this was after the legal rulings that even pornography was protected speech. Just in time for the Baby Boom’s coming of age! Most of my regular clients had copies of Fanny Hill and Lady Chatterly’s Lover. The town library didn’t have a copy of Peyton Place or a subscription to Playboy, but plenty of my customers did.
I ought to admit that as a pre-teen I went through a brief period of Christmas snoop, nosing around in closets and even carefully unwrapping and re-wrapping presents because of my insatiable curiosity. By the age of fifteen, I was better able to control myself. Vigorous shaking was ok, and straining to read through the wrapping paper, but no more.

My revision of the online course went very well. I think it looks better and flows more logically. It took a while to figure it out, but it was fun.
Today I am making candy for holiday gifts.

I am guessing it was anise candy, aka “glass candy” from my childhood.

What can I say about a friend so close that we were nominated as "class couple"? So sad to hear that my high school partner in crime, Marcia Schultz, has died. This is us, caught by a New Milford Times photographer as we strolled the village green "advertising" the wares available at the Registered Nurses Association tag sale. Our planned visit last summer was sabotaged when my car broke down en route, so we just chatted on the phone and signed off with "next time".

Every Sunday, my congregation observes a quiet moment. During that time, anyone who is mourning the loss of someone close is invited to stand or raise their hand in remembrance. I did this for Sandy in June, and Janne a few weeks ago. But as 2023 closes, the list has gotten too long. What a year. Sandy. Janne. Bob. Bill. Roger. Janet. Gene. Sigrid. Joel. So many that I’m afraid I’ve left someone out. That’s what happens, when you get older.
