Music class was great! I played “Peasant Dance” so well that Mr. N said I didn’t have to play it anymore. He gave me two very hard pieces to play - “Reverie” by Debussy and something by Schubert - something hard that is.
We had Miss H in Spanish - oh, well, it can’t be bad. That’s one more study hall I get, because she doesn’t know Spanish.
I’m so glad that “I Feel Fine” is number one on WABC, WMCA, and WINS. Whoopie!

WABC, WMCA and “1010, WINS, New York”. Those call letters bring back memories! When our parents weren’t home, Bob and I listened to Top 40 radio, usually one of the three big New York stations. My favorite was WABC, aka Musicradio 77, aka WA Beatles C, back then the most powerful AM station in the country. This was true for their broadcast reach (the entire east coast on a good night) and their influence, especially with teens. Every Tuesday night, DJ Bruce Morrow (Cousin Brucie) announced the new top 20 songs as we sat glued to our transistor radios.
If you were a fan as well, stroll over to this WABC Musicradio 77 fan page that makes up in audio files what it lacks in twenty-first century design sense. And enjoy!
Did anyone notice that I had gotten over my disappointment in the Beatles? “I Feel Fine” was a lively blend of their old rock style and some new tricks by Lennon and Starr. All was forgiven.

I’ve applied to several jobs. Most of them places we’d rather not move. Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Toronto (the exception). Aren’t there any jobs in the Northeast? Had an extremely strange dream last night. Marian Fry and her sister (?) came to go out to dinner with us and Jim started to insult them. So I left him. The dream continued as I re-ordered my life and started dating again. I woke up, feeling very guilty.
But halt! I have worked to improve my class, and it seems better. There are 29 students signed up for next semester, and 6 on the waitlist. That’s too many for a studio class.
Comprehensive exams (gag!) are over. Generally, they were just too short. Four hours may seem long for an exam, but I could have used more time. Heather says ditto.
Christmas is almost upon us; it’s a better Christmas than last year. Jim is still trying to decide if he is cut out to have a career. May I am, more than he is. Though what I need right now is a vacation.

When we met, in 1967, the future was clear: he’d be the one with the career, and I would have a job of some sort until the babies arrived. By the time we got married, in 1970, I knew women who took time off from a career until the babies were in nursery school. Five years later, I was the one in graduate school and Jim was the one with the unfinished thesis. It took a few more years to feel completely comfortable with the idea of my career and his job.
Ah, the seventies.

Good day today. I tried out my idea about advising on the dean, the chair, and the dean of undergrad studies, got very good feedback. Now to do it.
