What a crazy summer! Suddenly one senior professor has warmed to the idea of preserving half of the department, and the senior faculty in the other half of the department have suddenly becoming interested in being the “caretakers” for fashion merchandising, textile marketing, and apparel design. The latter is a bid for resources and the former is a bid for power, in my opinion. I need to alert the Presidents’ office about this. I also need V to claim responsibility for his program, or the senior professor will. If he doesn’t the program will eventually die. Either way, American Studies is starting to look better and better.
Then there’s the job at West Virginia, a full time administrative position, a move for the whole family, but at least a plan B.

The last few days before school begins. There is a sense of time ebbing away, of anticipation, I am ready for most things, perhaps not perfectly ready, but really not bad. The weekend is a treat…wonderful weather is predicted, and goods times with friends are planned. It would to great to just sit on the deck and enjoy.
I am skimming as I write; my mind is busy elsewhere.

Today’s Tarot: Death again. Well, it’s a process, isn’t it. This year three of my closest friends moved away. It’s a challenge to keep in touch. It’s a challenge to cultivate new relationships.

And this summer three good friends died.
Today I will be writing again; a to-do list of one item. I give you these notes on a 2015 sermon by Rev. Leon Dunkley, Jr.
