Ach! We had 2 substitutes - in History, Mrs. K in Spanish, Miss Tweetybird Oh, all we did was have study halls in those two classes and biology and English. Urg!

Hard to get started this morning - - - it’s chilly and gray. There’s good music on the radio. (Fritz Kreisler playing Liebesfreud) I have lots to do, but not an ounce of ambition energy. I’d like to go back to bed, but that’s impossible.
Monday I picked up Isaac Bashevis Singer’s Crown of Feathers. Short stories about Jewish life in Poland and in America. Glimpses of himself, too; I wish I could do that. The stories and the writing are really superb and enchanting.
Perhaps one story will get me off in the right direction. (Just one, she says, half-confidently.)

I spent my undergraduate years trying to be a visual artist, first in graphic arts and then costume design. My master’s thesis (1976) was the beginning of my journey as a writer. It changed the way I looked at everything I read; from then on it is always “Could I do this?” Fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, it’s all so enticing.
1997
Spring is thoroughly here today - - sunny, warm, azaleas blooming. Truly glorious. We had a Girl Scout meeting last night I was totally impressed by their maturity and caring for each other. We are certainly a troop now, after a year of settling in. A and M are working on there Gold Awards, and A is bridging to adults. Wow!

I was a Girl Scout leader for thirteen marvelous years. In the 1996, my troop merged with another one, all high school girls. They are all in their forties now; we are still in touch (thanks, Facebook!).

Fantastic worship service, and a pleasantly low-key Sunday. I did manage a walk, and got quite a bit of knitting done as well.
No writing, but I am thinking about limiting Chapter 2 to middle school and high school. I have been watching the slide show I did of the 1963 styles and taking mental notes. Question for my Facebook group: what, if anything, that you started doing for “grooming” in your teens are you still doing?

Every time I’ve written a book, I get hung up on Chapter 2. Maybe I should just skip it, like the 13th floor in tall buildings?
Clearly “grooming” doesn’t mean what it used to.
Current situation 2023
Raging allergies, terrible night’s sleep, but still I rise.
Trying to fill the knitting void with a couple of new projects.
May put on shoes this afternoon.
